visvaksam visva-sambhuvam | visvam narayanam devam-aksaram paramam padam || 1 //
"The Supreme Personality of Godhead has thousands of heads (Sahasra sirsa), He is omniscient (Visvaksa), He
is the creator of auspiciousness in the universe (Visvasambhuva), the Causal form of the universe (Visva), the Divine Narayana,
the indestructible (Aksara), the Supreme Abode (Paramam padam)."
visvatah paraman-nityam visvam narayanagm harim | visvamevedam purusas-tad visvam upajivati || 2 //
"He is the greatest in the universe (Visvata paramam) , eternal (Nitya) , the universal form (Visva)He is the
shelter in whom all entities rest (Narayana), He destroys His devotees sins (Hari). He is indeed the form of the world (Visvamidam),
the Supreme Person (Purusa), He gives life to the universe (Visvam upajivati)."
patim visvasyatmesvaragm sasvatagm sivam acyutam |/ 3 //
"He is the Lord of all worlds (Patim visvasya), Lord of all beings (Atmesvara), eternal (Sasvata), Auspicious
(Siva), Infallible (Acyuta).
narayanam mahagnyeyam vishvatmanam parayanam | narayana paro jyotir-atma narayanah parah // 4 //
"Lord Narayana
is the greatest knowledge (Mahajneya), the soul of the world (Visvatma) and the best refuge (parayana). Narayana is the most
effulgent (Parajyoti), Narayana is the Super soul (Paramatma).
narayanam param brahma tatvam narayanah parah | narayana paro dhyata dhyanam narayanah parah // 5 //
Narayana is the Supreme Absolute (Parambrahma), Narayana is the Supreme Tattva (Paratattva). Narayana is the
best of those who meditate (Paradhyata) and the best of meditations (Paradhyana)."
yac ca kincij-jagat sarvam drsyate sruyate ‘pi va | antar bahisca tat sarvam vyapya narayanah sthitah

"All that is seen and heard in this material world has its basis in Lord Narayana, who manifests everything
within and without."
anantam avyayam kavigm samudre’ntam visvasambhuvam | padma-kosa-pratikasagm hrdayam capy-adho mukham

"One should meditate upon the limitless, indestructible, all-knowing Supreme Lord who resides in the (causal)
ocean and within (all beings) and is the cause of all auspiciousness in the world. He is meditated upon in the heart which
is compared to an inverted lotus."
adho nistya vitas tyan te nabhyam uparitisthati / hrdayam tad vijaniyad visvasya yatanam mahat(e) // 8 //
"It should be known that the heart which is located at the distance of a finger span below the Adam’s
apple and above the navel is the great abode of the universe."
santatagm silabhistu lambatya kosasannibham / hrdayam tad vijaniyad visvasyad yatanam mahat(e) // 9 //
"The heart, like the bud of a lotus, is surrounded by arteries. In it there is a narrow space (susumna) wherein
everything is supported."
tasya madhye mahan agnir visvacir visvato mukhah / so’grabhug vibhajan tistham naharam ajarah kavih

"In the middle of that (space) burns a great fire which is eternal, all-knowing and has flames on all sides.
It enjoys the food presented before the body and continues to consume it."
tirag urdhvam adhas sayi rasmayas tasya santata / santa payati svam deham apada talamastakah // 11 //
"The rays (of that fire) continually spread vertically and horizontally. It warms the body from the insole to
the top of the head."
tasya madhye vahnisikha aniyordhva vyavasthitah / nilato yad amadhyastad vidyullekheva bhasvara // 12 //
"In the centre of that fire there is a fiery tongue which is the topmost of subtle things. It appears like a
dazzling flash of lightning within a bluish rain-cloud."
nivara suk avattanvi pita bhasvat yanupama // 13 //
"It is as slender as a blade of corn and serves as a comparison to illustrate."
tasya sikhaya madhye paramatma vyavasthitah / sa brahma sa sivah sendrah so’ksarah paramah svarat (e)

"The Supersoul dwells in the middle of that flaming tongue. He is Brahma, He is Siva, He is Indra. He is indestructible,
Absolute and supremely independent."
rtagm satyam param brahma purusam krsna pingalam / urdhva retam virupaksam visvarupaya vai namo namah //

"The Supreme Absolute Truth is a personality of a dark hue. He possesses supreme control of His senses and has
beautiful eyes. I offer my obeisances unto that Universal Being."
narayanaya vidhmahe / vasudevaya dhimahi / tanno visnuh pracodayat(e) // 16 //
"May we
know Lord Narayana. May we meditate upon Lord Vasudeva. May Lord Visnu impel us towards Him." |
